A custom piece starts on paper, not on skin. You bring what you have: a photo, a phrase, a half-formed picture in your head. The artist asks what it means to you, where you want it, and how much room the design gets. The drawing comes back for you to look at, and it keeps getting adjusted until the composition, the line weight, and the way it wraps the limb all read right.
Come in for a consultation before you book a session, especially for anything large. Expect a stencil placed and repositioned until you are happy with it in the mirror, an honest word about how the design will age, and a plan for splitting a big piece across sittings so neither of us is rushing at hour six.
